PRP Anti-Aging Treatment

Platelet Rich Plasma has become increasingly popular in recent years as an anti-aging treatment, and it’s not hard to see why.

Why Does Our Skin Change With Age?

As we age, the body naturally slows down collagen production, which in turn causes the skin to start showing the signs of aging. In the skin, aging can manifest itself as visible fine lines and wrinkles, a loss of youthful fullness, and thinner, drier skin.

Whilst the aging process is natural and will happen to everybody sooner or later, it is worth remembering that your overall genetics play a pivotal role in your aging process, meaning if your skin is naturally on the drier side you may start to see signs of aging before somebody with an oiler skin type. Extrinsic ageing, such as environment and lifestyle decisions, can also have a significant impact on skin ageing.

Of course, whilst aging natural, we strive to look younger, and more youthful than our chronological age. For this reason, non-surgical anti-aging treatments have become increasingly popular.

PRP As An Anti-Aging Treatment

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is an injectable, unique anti-aging treatment that uses the body’s natural healing abilities to stimulate collagen production and tissue growth.

The treatment utilises the natural nutrients found within a patient’s own blood to rejuvenate the skin and increase volume for a noticeably more youthful appearance.

Who’s Suitable for PRP Treatment?

Suitable for all skin types, ages, and ethnicities, PRP works by extracting blood, like a blood test. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge to separate platelet-rich plasma and natural nutrients from the blood. The platelet-rich plasma is then injected just below the surface of the skin, which encourages the body to begin its natural healing process, in which new collagen is produced and sent to the area to heal.

As PRP uses nothing more than one’s blood, it is considered one of the safest non-surgical procedures on the market, with very little risk of infection or complication. However, you should speak to a professional before undergoing treatment. PRP therapy is not recommended for anybody who has one of the following medical conditions:

  • Hepatitis C
  • HIV or AIDS
  • Blood cancer/ skin cancer
  • Cardiovascular disease, which requires blood thinning medication
  • Pregnant women are also advised to avoid PRP treatment until after they have given birth.

How Effective is PRP Treatment for Anti-Aging?

PRP is a highly effective form of treatment to reverse signs of aging in the skin, including improving the appearance of wrinkles and restoring volume for a more youthful, defined appearance. It can be used to address nasolabial folds, hollowed cheeks, and other unwanted lines, but it can also be used to improve the appearance of acne scars and pock marks on the surface of the skin.

After PRP injections, growth factors and other natural nutrients are released into the skin for several days to stimulate collagen production, which plays a critical role in the healing process, boosting the repair and regeneration of damaged tissue.

For most patients, the results are visible immediately and will continue to improve, however, full results may not be visible until three weeks after treatment as volume builds gradually.

PRP is a fantastic treatment and one that we have been offering for many years now at our clinic. We both do believe that regenerative medicine is the future of aesthetics and PRP is just that – we wish more people knew about its many benefits. The product we use is Regen PRP produced by Regen Lab which we couldn’t recommend enough. Not only is this product safe and easy to use, but it has also benefited patient goals and outcomes. Five stars!
