What exactly are wrinkles?
As we age, we all get wrinkles. They’re a natural part of growing older. Wrinkles appear most frequently on the face, neck, backs of the hands, and tops of the forearms, which are all exposed to the sun the most.
There are two types of wrinkles: fine surface lines and deeper furrows. There are things you may do if wrinkles irritate you or if you want to prevent them from appearing in the first place.
Wrinkles: What Causes Them?
Skin cells divide more slowly as people become older, and the dermis, or inner layer of the skin, begins to shrink. The skin’s stretchiness and structure begin to deteriorate as a result.
Skin begins to lose its capacity to retain moisture as it ages. It produces less oil and heals more slowly. All of this leads to the wrinkling of the skin. Other factors that contribute to wrinkles include:
- Smoking. It reduces the creation of collagen, which is an important component of the skin’s structure. Collagen deficiency causes wrinkles to appear. That just gives more of an incentive to quit or never start smoking.
- Type of skin (people with light-coloured skin and blue eyes are more susceptible to sun damage)
- Hereditary
- Sun exposure
- Repetitive facial expressions
Though you can’t control all of these variables, you can take steps to reduce your sun exposure and avoid smoking.
How to treat deep wrinkles?
There are treatments that can reduce the look of wrinkles, if not completely eliminate them.
- Dermabrasion: The skin is “sanded” during this treatment. Dermabrasion can make a considerable difference depending on the competence and experience of the person who performs it. Scarring and persistent changes in skin pigmentation are other possible side effects.
- Laser resurfacing: Lasers can be used by doctors to encourage the creation of collagen in the skin, which plumps it up. There are several types of lasers, so talk to your doctor about how many treatments you’ll need, how much down time you’ll need to cure your skin, and any potential hazards.
- Ultrasound therapy: This is a non-invasive treatment that employs ultrasound to lift and tighten skin on the face, neck, and chin. It can also be used to smooth out creases on the chest.
- PRP Injections: PRP Injections, which are injected just beneath the surface of the skin, can assist to reverse the indications of ageing in the skin, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. When PRP is injected into targeted areas of the skin, it serves as a matrix, promoting the growth of your own collagen, regenerating tissue, and naturally smoothing and tightening the skin. PRP reduces wrinkles and improves skin texture and tone in this way. PRP therapy can also be used in conjunction with or after the other treatment regimes.
- Microdermabrasion: This process, like dermabrasion, uses a revolving brush to remove a layer of skin while also stimulating collagen synthesis in deeper layers of the skin. The layer of skin that comes off in microdermabrasion is finer than the skin that is sanded off in dermabrasion.
The takeaway
As we have established, there are plenty of non-surgical treatments available to help reduce and eradicate wrinkles. It is always best to speak to a healthcare professional to see which best suits your needs.
